What does an AI voice assistant actually cost a small business?

AI voice assistant pricing has no single number. See the real parts, why owning your stack beats per-seat SaaS, and how to get an honest estimate.

An AI voice assistant does not have one set price. The cost breaks into a one-time build and then small monthly costs for the calls it handles. Most small businesses spend less than they fear, but the honest answer is that it depends on your call volume and what you connect it to.

What actually goes into the cost

Think of the price as a few separate parts, not one scary number. When you can see the parts, you can check each one.

  • The build. This is the one-time work to set up your assistant, give it your business details, and connect it to your calendar or booking tool.
  • The phone line. A telephony service charges a small fee per minute or per call.
  • The AI model. The AI provider charges for each call it answers, usually by how long the chat runs.
  • Hosting. A small monthly fee to keep the assistant running and online.
  • Changes over time. Now and then you may want to update what it says or add a new task.

The first part is paid once. The rest are ongoing and rise or fall with how busy your phone is. A clinic that takes forty calls a day will pay more in usage than a shop that takes five. That is why no honest provider can quote a flat price before knowing your numbers.

Own your stack, or rent per seat

Here is the part that changes the total the most. Many voice products charge a per-seat fee on top of the usage. That price often hides a markup on the same vendors anyone can use.

SZTek works the other way. We build the assistant, and you own it. You pay the phone, AI, and hosting vendors at cost, with no markup added by us and no per-seat lock-in. If your call volume drops one month, your bill drops with it. If you want to move or change providers later, the build is yours to keep. You can read more about how we build these on our custom AI applications page.

Renting per seat can feel simpler at the start. But over a year or two, a stack you own often costs less and leaves you in control.

An honest example, not a quote

Here is a scenario, not a quote. Imagine a trades business that misses ten calls a day after hours. An assistant answers, books the easy jobs, and takes a message for the rest. The build is a one-time cost. The monthly usage might land in the low tens of dollars when calls are light, and more in a busy season.

These are rough, general numbers to show the shape of the cost. They are not a promise, and your real figure could be higher or lower. Sometimes the honest answer is that you do not need a voice assistant yet, and we will tell you so.

How to get a real number

You get a real number by looking at your real calls. That is what our short, fixed-scope assessment is for. We look at your call volume, the tasks you want handled, and the tools you already use. Then we give you a clear, checkable estimate before any build starts.

Most of our work begins with a free first talk, so there is no cost to find out if this fits. Results build over time, and we would rather set the right expectation than oversell.

Quick answers

How much does an AI voice assistant cost per month?
It depends on your call volume. You pay the phone, AI, and hosting vendors for the calls the assistant handles, so a quiet month costs less than a busy one. With an own-your-stack build there is no flat monthly fee.
Is it cheaper to build my own AI voice assistant or use a SaaS product?
Per-seat SaaS products add a fixed monthly fee and often a markup on the same vendors anyone can use. A build you own lets you pay those vendors at cost, which often costs less over a year or two, though the right choice depends on your needs.
Does SZTek charge a markup on AI voice assistants?
No. You own what SZTek builds and pay the underlying vendors (AI model, telephony, and hosting) at cost, with no SaaS markup and no per-seat lock-in.
Per-seat
A fixed monthly price charged for each user or phone line, whether or not you use it.
Telephony
The technology that carries phone calls over the internet.
Stack
The set of services that work together to run your assistant, such as the phone line, the AI, and hosting.
